Australian businesses struggle to hold prices and find staff - ABS

57 per cent of all Australian companies experienced increases in the cost of doing business over the three months to April 2022, with almost a quarter (21 per cent) reporting costs had increased to “a great extent,” according to new data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS). The data also shows that more than four in five businesses with staff shortages were unable to find suitable staff.

Icahn boosts stake in Xerox - is buyout on horizon?

The US Securities and Exchange Commission has reported the sale of almost 2 million more shares over the past four trading days, to interests of Carl Icahn, taking his stake to over 34 million shares, or 21.9% of the stock. Currently at between US$16 and $17, Xerox shares have dropped dramatically and are about half of what Fujifilm offered in the abortive take-over offer in 2018.

UPM paper strike ends: 1900 workers return to work

Papermaking giant UPM and the Paperworkers' Union have agreed on a deal to end the 110-day strike at five UPM mills in Finland, which caused paper shortages across Europe. Employees will return to work immediately and UPM says it will restart customer deliveries as soon as possible.

Xerox posts first quarter loss in ‘volatile’ environment

Print giant Xerox recorded $1.67 billion of revenue for the first quarter in 2022, down 2.5% year-over-year, with an operating loss of $56m compared to a profit of $39m in Q1 2021. In response, Xerox shares fell by more than 15% to $16.87 and have declined 25% this year.
