HP Awards set for February 2021 conference in Sydney

ASGA and FESPA Australia have announced the 2020 HP Awards for Excellence Gala Dinner Presentation, which was to have been held during the Visual Impact Trade Show, will now be held on Friday 12 February 2021 at a Sydney CBD venue.

The industry’s first virtual expo, the Print, Sign, Display & Graphics Virtual Trade Show, has smashed expectations with more than 5,000 visits clocked since its launch just two weeks ago.

Australian printed paper & cardboard waste cleared for export

Printed paper waste has been excluded from the COAG Waste Export Ban until 2024 after a campaign led by printing industry group The Real Media Collective (TRMC). “Our lobbying was a success,” said TRMC CEO Kellie Northwood. Without the change, printers could have been forced to pay for printed waste to be sent to landfill rather than selling it off-shore.

Mutoh offers three month payment holiday on new wide format devices

In addition to cashback offers on its benchtop UV devices, Mutoh Australia has introduced three-month holidays on repayments on all printers, as a support initiative to get sign printers up and running again after Covid-19. 

Cyber fraud alert after print company loses $100,000

The Print & Visual Communications Association (PVCA) has urged its members to immediately review and update their cyber security after an unnamed printing industry business lost over $100,000 in a so-called CEO email scam. This publication has also been the target of two attempted scams recently.

HP Indigo’s long-serving general manager Alon Bar-Shany, who suddenly announced this week he’d be leaving the company after 25 years, had been opposed to a plan by HP management to fire hundreds of Israeli workers, according to an report by Israeli tech news site CTech.

Large format WANTED posters with an image of Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg have been plastered around Canada as part of an outdoor advertising campaign by watchdog group Friends of Canadian Broadcasting. The group has praised Australia’s recent decision to require that Facebook pay news organizations for content.

Pride in Print winners to be announced this month

Organisers have decided against rescheduling New Zealand’s premier printing industry awards event and will instead announce the winners in an online event on Thursday 25th June. The awards gala dinner that was due to take place in Auckland on May 8th – with 500 industry delegates expected - was postponed in March because of the COVID-19 restrictions. 

Sensient Imaging Technologies division sold to Sun Chemical/DIC

As the earnings season winds down, industry researcher Keypoint Intelligence has reviewed a selection of quarterly earnings figures to measure COVID-19’s impact on printing and imaging manufacturers over the first quarter of 2020.  Revenues for Canon, HP, Konica Minolta, Ricoh, and Xerox all declined; however, "the general expectation is this next quarter will be the worst of it.”
