One of the busiest stands at Printing United expo last week was Digitech, represented in Australia by Celmac. Wide Format Online was given an exclusive look at an exciting fully automated line, expected to be commercialised in Q1 2025.
Digitech is about to become ‘bigger that Texas’ to use the expression. Actually, headquartered in San Antonio, Texas, the company has built a reputation of no-compromise, build it in the US-of-A machine and software excellence. Last year, we reported on the first installation at Brisbane’s SS Signs.
Digitech TruFire LTX2 and the new, faster LTX3 are high-productivity flatbed UV printers delivering the utmost in colour and image quality. However, the story does not surround the printers alone – it’s the automation options that are getting signage board printers excited. Full pallet-to-pallet or pallet-to-cutter automation will be available from 2025. Twin printer-to-conveyer belt configurations are available now but what is coming in early 2025 eliminates any human intervention with board load and unload automated by a clever rotary board changer (no clumsy robot arms), that gets the next board ready off the pallet while the previous one is being printed.
The productivity equation changes dramatically, from a focus on square metres-per-minute – the LTX2 is already fast at 170 m2/hr for high-re saleable boards or 340m2/hr for distance viewed signs - to overall time to set up, print, finish and deliver jobs. The new TruFire LTX3 released at Printing United features an extra row of printheads and delivers a full-size board in 21 seconds versus the LTX2's 40 seconds.
This degree of automation may not suit ever sign producer but, for those with sufficient volumes, it is a real time and cost saver.
Canon gives Digitech the nod in North America
Such is the reputation of Digitech Trufire LT/X2 printers, that the mighty Canon in the USA is offering it as a top-level flatbed UV under the model name ‘Texas’ – well Canon does like US states in its nomenclature (Arizona, Colorado eg). In Canada, Digitech’s partner distributor Ronik has also inked an OEM deal with Canon Canada.
Nothing changes in Australia – Celmac is the exclusive Digitech distributor.
