Following the Cyber Ransomware attack on one of Australia's (and Pacific region) leading print groups - TMA Group (as reported in WideFormatOnline here) the Visual Media Association (VMA) has released a warning to be ultra-vigilant.
Don't get locked out of your own business! Be Cyber attack-aware
“Cyber security is no longer a backroom IT issue: it’s a whole-of-business risk management imperative,” says Kellie Northwood, Chief Executive Officer, Visual Media Association. “As an industry that manages large data files, proprietary creative assets, intellectual property and essential customer communications, we must take the threat of cyber-attacks seriously and act pre-emptively.”
“Every business, regardless of size or structure, must have appropriate protection measures in place.”
The VMA has re-released a suite of resources that include a Cyber-Security Checklist and Cyber-Security Policy template, to help its members ensure that all incident response protocols are current and essential safeguards are in place.
The VMA also highlighted that the consequences of cyber breaches extend far beyond data loss. Downtime, reputational damage, financial penalties, and legal liabilities are real risks businesses face without adequate safeguards.
A key message that the VMA is keen to get across is that Cyber-Security is a shared responsibility: a breach in one part of a customer-supply chain can compromise the integrity of the whole.
As per our TMA cyber-attack report, we emphasise that other help is available. the AFP, cooperating with international Police forces, has had some success in tracking down these gangs and writing decryption reversal software. One such example is on THIS LINK
