The Ghent Workgroup, established in 2002 to work with the industry to develop best practices for print & publishing workflows, has welcome Adobe back into its fold.
First introduced in 1993, the continued development of Adobe's PDF remains integral to the Ghent Workgroup's mission to continue the development of best practices for print & publishing workflows
Mike Scrutton, Director of Print Technology and Strategy for Adobe, says: “Print is part of our DNA. From pioneering digital print workflows to driving innovation across creative and production workflows, Adobe has consistently led the way in innovation and standards. Rejoining the Ghent Workgroup reflects our commitment to advancing industry standards, especially in areas like embellishment and textile. We’re proud to collaborate with a group whose objectives closely align with our own vision for the future of print.”
Perhaps best known for inventing the PDF in 1993, Adobe sparked a revolution in how the printing and publishing industry worked. Today, PDF has become an ISO standard and is fundamental to the space that the Ghent Workgroup operates in.
Dave Zwang, consulting analyst and Chair of the Ghent Workgroup, adds: “Our mission is to push the printing industry forward through the development of practical industry standards. In this regard, few vendors are so key to our industry as Adobe, so we’re incredibly pleased to see them return to the Ghent Workgroup.”
The Ghent Workgroup’s standards are largely based on the ISO PDF/X standards, which ultimately talk back to the PDF format initially pioneered by Adobe. By now operating as a member of this group again, Adobe is in the position to help direct the future of the workgroup’s recommendations, which are wholly complementary to the work Adobe is already doing in other standards organizations such as ISO and the PDF Association.
